Helen’s love of Jazz began in her early teens growing up in Brisbane, listening to the legendary Arch McCurdie who had a jazz program on the ABC. Whilst studying overseas in the 1970’s Helen was invited to be the first female DJ in West Berlin at the Ciro Beach Club, and later at the Black Cat Club in London.
After successfully launching The JazzXpress Caravan radio show on various community radio stations and by invitation on IACmusic.com HELEN SIMONS presented Radio Cockatoo ‘Live’ purely for the pleasure of comedy fans in the Courtyard during the WORLDSFUNNIESTISLAND comedy festival on COCKATOO ISLAND SYDNEY HARBOUR .
Helen’s cohesive musical tapestry and play lists are selected from local and international jazz, swing, pop and blues recordings, mixed with tracks by the Kings & Queens of New Orleans, Cajun, Soul, Gospel, Latin, Oz Manouche and Gypsy Balkan beats.

In 2011 Helen realized one of her dreams which was to experience first hand the music and culture of Argentina and Brazil. This journey expanded Helen’s vast music library and since her return she has presented the LatinXpress music episodes as an invited guest announcer on BayFM99.9 Byron Bay and Brisbane’s 4Zzz 102.1FM.
